Re: The ridiculous view of motivation

In no way whatsoever am I condoning the cheap shots UTVOL has taken at Clintwood, but I also think Ironlung went way over the line in the way he reacted, and I told him that too. In all fairness, if the same comments were made on other discussion boards, I truly believe he would be been at least suspended if not banned. I don't know Ironlung and have no personal issue with him at all, but there is a right and wrong way to do things.

You might assess that some are just too easily offended on here, but it goes both ways. It was just a week or so ago that I got an email from the moderators to the effect of 'we want to get some quality back in this forum and we need everyone's help.' It's just my opinion, but if you really want quality back in the forum, it has to start with mutual respect between schools and their fans.

    [ QUOTE ]
...Its not a particular thing, I guess I'm just tired of seeing people afraid to post an opinion, be it a bit smart or completely classy for things attempted to be turned around. Like Burrhead said, last week nobody from GC or PV hardly posted and in normal years, that game is a pick-fest but the programs, as much as they like giving it to each other, had to have mutual respect. We've gotten away from being able to give and take a bit of good natured or even not so good natured ribbing. To quote Robert D. Rayford (or however his name is spelled), we're the United States of the Offended.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation

    In a manner, you're right.
However, who do you give rope to, someone who has been on for years and contributed, been respectful of other programs/users or someone who has joined recently and done nothing but snipe? The little fly-by-night names who come on with no purpose but to stir things up are difficult to give much rope to and Ironlung was warned, something I don't think I've ever had to do before to him, and he's been on about as long as there has been a board. I don't fault a long time user for sometimes getting frustrated.

By the same token, there was shots taken at me, and in most boards, the surest and easiest way to get banned is what, attack/question a mod or admin. I didn't ban/suspend for that either.

What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation

I don't think it's an issue of giving rope to either person. From my experience, if someone truly is just joining to create some drama, they will disappear soon enough. Now if the Vol stays around and contributes to the forum, I would say its not just a one-dimensional agenda and maybe he just legitimately dislikes Clintwood fans.

To some extent, I can relate to having issues with some of our schools' fans. While not offended, I have become annoyed with the way some act at games. And things that might annoy me might not bother someone else. I used to go to a lot of basketball games, and nothing irritates me more than fans who sit up in the stands and yell at the refs. I think it's ridiculous and pointless yet I've seen it in every school in our area.

My views on being a moderator and being impartial are definitely different from your's, Rocket. I'm certainly glad I'm not in your place.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation

Here's a few of the things Greencrest has said about Norton... (1) it's just Norton, ie. there's nothing special about them (despite the fact that they are undefeated), (2) it's just a team Clintwood can beat 8 out of 10 times, (3) the only team Norton has beat is Appy (I guess Powell Valley just fell off the face of the earth) and let's not forget (4) they're just 3-time state losers.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minus the 3-time state championship loser comment which I'll admit was classless and un-called for, everything else is just my honest opinion. I dont mean any disrespect, its just my feelings toward JI Burton. They are absolutely nothing special to me. It seems everyone wants to just bow down to them and just give them every game because its the "MIGHTY RAIDERS", please, give me one reason that would give JI Burton the credibility to where I should think otherwise about them. Yeah they beat us last year 6 to 0 in a slobber knocker of a ball game against probably the worst Clinwtood team in at least 5 years. They beat the worst PV team that there has been in probably 20 years. Woopty freakin doo. Not impressed. I apologize for not being impressed with Norton. It might just be pride talking, but thats how I feel about it. Honest opinions, disrespect or not, take it however you want to.

That is so much more respectful.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation

I am so sick and tired of all these people who are crying and always wanting others banned from the board. If you can't take the heated moments...don't visit the board anymore.Or take a break for a day or two.I think the board is run very well. And what is this crap ...if this had happened on another board so and so would've been banned. So what if you like the other board then go there.I am so tired of people acting like our moderators are not doing their job.If they ban someone everytime a subject gets heated then the board would s***.I don't blame ironplug for defending his town and team. And if you read all the treads you would see that he said he has listened to this other poster for some time down the town or fans or whatever he darn well felt like downing at the time, without saying anything. We can all only take so much.So consider giving it a day or two before you visit again and try to get people banned.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation

Hey at no time did I say I wanted anyone banned from this board! I don't. I said the comments went over the line, and it doesn't matter who makes them or what caused it. If you want to keep the forum from turning into an online version of a Jerry Springer sports show, there are lines you don't cross.

You can get upset with me if you want to, but it's kind of hypocritical to ask the forum users for help in improving the forum and then making an excuse when someone goes on a tirade and tells people to "go to hell."
